Setting up sync

Your contacts arrive through CardDAV, the same protocol Apple's own accounts use. You add the account once per device; after that everything updates by itself.

You need two things from Settings → CardDAV: your 8-character code, which is the username, and a sync password you generate there. The sync password is not your account password, and you can revoke it without changing anything else.

Choose Other, then Add CardDAV Account

Password: the sync password from your settings page
Tap Next. Your contacts appear in the Contacts app.

On a Mac

Contacts → Settings → Accounts → Add Account → Other Contacts Account
Account Type: Manual
User Name, Password and Server Address exactly as above

If a client asks for a "principal" or full path rather than a server address, use the server address followed by your code — the settings page shows the full path for clients that need it.

What each group exposes

Your name, photo, organisation and job title are always visible to anyone you have shared with. Everything else belongs to a group, and each group is either visible to your subscribers or available only on request.

Work: Work phone, work email, work address
Personal: Personal phone, personal email, home address
Social: Social profiles and websites
Dates: Birthday

Set each one from your profile. Changing a group from public to on-request does not withdraw access from people who already have it — revoke that from Subscribers.

Access requests

When a group is on-request, someone subscribed to you can ask for it. You get a notification, and the request waits on your Subscribers page until you approve or decline it. Nothing is shared while a request is pending, declining tells them only that the request was not granted, and approving can be undone at any time.

Asking someone else to update their details

Cardmunk also keeps the contacts who are not on Cardmunk current. In the iOS app, open a contact you keep yourself and choose Ask for an update. You get a link, and you send it yourself — however you normally talk to that person.

If you receive one of these links: you do not need an account and you are not signing up for anything. The page shows you who is asking and what they already have. You fill in what you want them to have, tick only the groups you are willing to share, and that is the end of it. The same link lets you withdraw what you shared afterwards, without asking the person who sent it.

Common questions

How do contacts stay current?: Cardmunk publishes an address book over CardDAV. Add it once in Settings on iOS, or in Contacts on a Mac, and updates arrive the same way mail does — see Getting started.
Who can see my details?: You decide per group. Work, private, social and dates are each either public to your subscribers or available only on request, and you can revoke access at any time — Your profile.
How do I share my card?: Create a share link or show its QR code. Each link can carry its own default access and expiry — Sharing.
Managing your subscription: The free tier covers 25 subscriptions. Pro removes the limit. Purchases made in the iOS app are managed through your Apple ID in Settings; purchases made on the web are managed from your settings page.
Deleting your account: Settings → Account → Delete account removes your profile, your connections and your uploaded media. Anyone subscribed to you stops receiving updates immediately.
